SPECIAL COURT CONVICTS THEN CHAIRMAN AND MD OF JHARKHAND BASED PRIVATE FIRM IN A CASE RELATING TO ALLOCATION OF COAL BLOCK

The Special Judge, CBI (Coal Allocation Cases), Delhi has today convicted Sh. R. S. Rungta, then Chairman and R. C. Rungta, then Managing Director (then Promoter/Directors) of M/s Jharkhand Ispat Pvt Ltd., Ramgarh (Jharkhand) along with said company U/s 120-B r/w 420 of IPC and substantive offences thereof in a case
relating to allocation of a coal block.
       CBI had registered a case on 08.03.2013 U/s 120-B r/w 420 of IPC against M/s Jharkhand Ispat Pvt Ltd. Ramgarh (Jharkhand); Sh. R. S. Rungta, Chairman; Sh. R. C. Rungta, Managing Director & other Directors of M/s Jharkhand Ispat Pvt Ltd and unknown others. It was alleged that M/s Jharkhand Ispat Pvt Ltd had secured allocation of North Dhadu coal block recommended through the Screening Committee Meeting for its Sponge Iron EUP at District Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) by misrepresenting on various factors. Searches were conducted on 11.03.2013 at 11 places including Ghaziabad, Ramgarh Cantt., Hesla District, Hazari Bagh, Ranchi, New Delhi, Kolkata & Varanasi at the factory premises & offices of the company and residences of its Directors. Various documents and other evidences were recovered during the searches.
       After thorough investigation, a charge sheet was filed on 10.12.2014 against M/s. Jharkhand Ispat Pvt Ltd through its Directors; Sh. R. S. Rungta; Sh. R. C. Rungta and two other accused personsU/s 120-B r/w 420, 467, 468 and 471 of IPC & substantive offences thereof. The said two other accused persons expired during course of trial and the charges against them were abated accordingly.
       The Trial Court found the accused guilty and convicted them today. The sentence will be pronounced on 31.03.2016. In the meantime, accused persons have been taken into custody on the orders of Court. This is the first case related to allocation of coal blocks amongst large number of cases and ended in conviction.
